Q&A with Mitchell

Image
Welcome back  to the newest edition of MIC Talks Music! It's Mitchell once again, bringing you a shorter segment this week. If you are reading this on the day of release, don't forget that there is an Open Mic at 8:00 tonight at the Bowen Thompson Student Union in the multipurpose room. For that reason, I think it would be nice to do a more laid back post this week and hear from the viewers. So without further ado, let's see what burning questions you had for me? "What was the first memory of music that you had that stood out to you?" Interestingly enough, I was obsessed with Sugar We're Going Down by Fall Out Boy when I was a toddler. My parents would tell me that I used to embarrass them in the super market by yelling "cock it and pull it" over and over again. I don't think I'm anywhere near as proud to know the lyrics to a Fall Out Boy song at 19 years old though, haha. "What are your top 10 female musicians?" This is tough but I...

New Music Roundup with Mitchell (September)

Image
Welcome back  to the latest edition of MIC Talks Music. It's Mitchell, back again with the new and improved New Music Roundup. For those who are new, these segments used to be weekly showcases of new music that had released throughout the past seven days. I found that while this was a great way to introduce you all to some new music, it gave me little room to make a variety of different posts for you all. Additionally, in order to have a full blog post for the week, I found myself picking albums and singles that I wasn't crazy about just so I could provide a reasonable amount of content. With monthly segments, I have the time and resources needed to ensure that all of the releases I will be talking about are quality pieces of music. That said, let's check out some new music! Albums and EPs Ari Lennox - age/sex/location Signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records, Ari Lennox is one of multiple artists from the label to drop an album this summer. Following the lyrically impres...

3rd Secret: A Grunge Comeback Story? (Album Review with Tommy)

Image
Hello, I’m Tommy , not Mitchell. I’m the vice president and other bearded member of MIC. I’d like to give a brief introduction to an album by a band I found recently . If you’re already familiar with grunge , you’ll love 3rd Secret. If you’re not, they’re definitely worth a listen and would be a good introduction to the genre, because the sound of the music is n’t as heavy as the genre can be known for, but it still has the melanchol ic feel to it that sets it apart from most popular songs of today . I found the band while watching Rick Beato on YouTube, a creator that has a great channel that discusses all things music from a rock producer’s point of view : guitar lesson videos, music theory classes, a series called “What Makes This Song Great , ” which I highly recommend watching , as well as videos essays that can introduce musicians , where 3rd Secret ’s self-titled album was featured. 3rd S ecret is a grunge superband comprised o f guitarists Kim Thayil from Soundgarden ...

If you are new to the blog, feel free to check out the blog's first post and our most recent post for some more information about the blog, Music Industry Club, and myself. At the start of the new school year, it's important to find a study routine that works best for you. If you're anything like me, you listen to music while studying. Whether you have a study playlist, listen to the same album every time you work, or you work in complete silence, my goal today is to give you some new additions to your "study music" catalog. Starter Pack: Instrumental Music "What is a Starter Pack?" If you're asking this question right now, don't be ashamed. This is a new segment where I will give you an introduction to a certain category of music or musical genre while showcasing some essential artists and albums in said category. Today, ...

Songs For Parents: Charity Special with Mitchell and Jacob W. Fowler

Image
Hello and welcome to this charity special  of MIC Talks Music. A couple weeks ago, I was approached by a former Music Industry Club member who is now the founder of Beautiful Rat Records, Jacob W. Fowler. He was messaging me to tell me about a charity collaboration he was doing with fellow label, Ska Punk International. This collaboration consists of two compilation albums called Songs For Moms: Volume 2 and Songs for Dads. Jacob has kindly provided some information for the two labels as well as the inspiration of these charitable compilations. Please give his words a read and feel free to keep reading at the bottom for my thoughts on the projects! Beautiful Rat Records Beautiful Rat Records is a radical label with the goal to help artists and the communities they come from thrive. The label was founded and is currently solely ran by former MIC member, Jacob W. Fowler, who was tired of not being able to find a job with his audio and music industry degree, so he decided to create on...
